In 1993 Ford gave us a treat. The newly formed Special Vehicle Team sent the Fox-body Mustang out with a blast by creating the 1993 Cobra. In addition to the special edition car that offered higher performance and improved appearance over a standard Mustang GT, SVT also produced a batch of 107 Cobra R models.
The R models received the same exterior improvements as the standard Cobras, however they were stripped of air conditioning, rear seat, sound insulation, fog lights, radio and other amenities. The seats were replaced with the lower grade base Mustang seats and the entire car had a lightweight racing feel. Adjustable suspension components, and several other tricks of SVT were all also in place to set the Cobra R up to be a track dominater in it’s day.
Cobra R’s were originally only sold to buyers who were able to show proper SCCA credentials making them that much more rare. Twenty years later pristine examples of these cars still fetch a premium whenever they go up for sale. This is the ultimate factory Fox-body Mustang.
We recently came across this example on eBay of an unmolested Cobra R with just over 500 miles on the odometer. The seller of the car is only it’s second owner, and while he has replaced a handful of items such as the tires for safety reasons, he has held onto the originals and is including them in the sale of this well documented original car, item number 261329281227.
Aside from the immaculate condition of this particular car having spent it’s life in Arizona, it also one of just one of six that were approved for sale in California through a special exemption for these cars.
The seller is offering free delivery within the continental USA for this particular car if purchased at the buy it now price. Cobra number 77 has a buy it now price of $65,000.
