So today it rained. And if you were in a hotel lobby or elevator you would think that it was the first time people had ever seen water fall from the sky…But Mustangs don’t melt people, so suck it up, this is the 50th Anniversary! The show still goes on! As a South Carolina resident, Courtney had hope that the storm would pass by quicker than expected and kept telling people it was going to be a passing shower-hasn’t anyone seen A Field of Dreams? If you believe, sometimes good things will happen. Then again, sometimes they don’t and you just get wet.
The Mustang Girl Meet Up was scheduled for 9 am rain or shine. Courtney showed up at the location at 8:30 with photographer Bill Hamilton. And then at 8:50 the first car rolled in. Woohoo! As long as she wasn’t standing there alone she was happy. But then 2 more cars rolled in, then a trailer with a beautiful classic ‘Stang inside. And then 6 more. Not only are we Mustang Girls, we are also tough girls that don’t mind getting a little wet. There’s a dirty joke in that last sentence somewhere! At 9:15 everyone dropped the umbrellas and took off the hoodies and put a smile on their face, and made the best of the situation. Built Ford Tough. Team Mustang Girls would like to thank everyone that came out, including Hannah Miller (of Stang Girls Club) that didn’t make it in time, even though she tried.
After the meet up, it was off to the Speedway for the 50th Anniversary. It was awesome to see that in spite of the rain the show went on. Everyone there shared the same look of disgust for the rain, yet they still wanted to see the show. Courtney was in the media center in the afternoon when they announced over the speaker that Drift hero Vaughn Gittin Jr. was doing a drifting demonstration outside on the track. It was awesome to see everyone run out the door to go check him out drifting his RTR Mustang. For a few moments everyone forgot about the rain and remembered what had brought them there in the first place, the love of the Mustang and the roaring sound of an engine powered by a driver having fun!
Later in the evening was the banquet with all the Ford VIPs with John Clor as the MC. Courtney went into it thinking she was back in college and had prepared herself for a lecture. And she couldn’t have been more wrong. The guys on stage were normal people who just happened to be the most influential people in Mustang history. They joked around, poked fun at each other and made everyone laugh. The highlight of the evening was the revealing of a secret feature for the 2015 Mustang, a burnout button on the steering wheel. Because it’s not fun unless you smell rubber!
