Back by popular demand was Ford’s rally and drift ride-a-longs in the front parking lot of SEMA.  Last year, I was lucky enough to take a ride with Ken Block and this year Ford invited me back again for another go, this time with 2011 X Games champion Brian Deegan.  This time instead of a Go Pro, I wanted to give a first person point of view on what it is like to ride with these crazy guys.

In my opinion, I believe that Ken Block does a better job showing off the capabilities of the all-wheel-drive Fiestas, while Deegan is a technical driver that practices a line to improve on his rally lap times.  I have ridden and driven in a variety of drift cars over the years, and while a rear wheel drive car can slide a longer distance while pumping out more smoke, the all-wheel-drive Fiestas accelerate violently while sideways and are much more precise to drive.  The close ratio steering box does not require the driver’s to spin the wheel when rotating from turn-to-turn.

Replay XD was on hand to give any riders a video of their ride along as well, which we used in this clip.

Also out there was ex drifter and fellow X Games rally driver Tanner Foust.
