For 50 years, the Mustang has been a staple in the automotive industry, but it’s also been found in our music. Sure, Mustang Sally by Wilson Pickett is a given, but USA Today has compiled a list of 50 songs that mention the iconic pony car. Some may surprise you!

The top 10 songs on USA Today’s list are pretty self explanatory, from Wild, Wild Mustang by Dick Del & The Del-Tones and Move Out Little Mustang by The Fantastic Baggys (aka Rally-Packs), to Shelby GT 356 by The Chesterfield Kings and 65 Mustang by Five for Fighting. Other songs that made the list that are blatantly obvious include Mustang Heart by George Fox, Run Little Mustang by The Zip-Codes, Daddy’s Mustang by Laurel Taylor, My 5.0 by Power Supply, and Mustang by Eddie Angel.
In total, 20 of the songs selected by USA Today make reference to a Mustang in some way just in the title. A handful more have titles that refer to driving or cars in general.
The other songs that were selected are a little less obvious, including Road to Ruin by Mr. Big, De Anza Jig by Primus, You’re Insane by Rod Stewart, Quietly Making Noise by Jimmy Buffett and Young Americans by David Bowie. And for you young’ins don’t think that USA Today forgot about you. Included in the 50 are even songs like Sweet Thing by Keith Urban, One That Got Away by Katy Perry and Summer Forever by Megan Nicole.
This is certainly not the full list here, but we encourage you to go over to USA Today’s website and check out the list in its entirety. Let us know how many Mustang songs you recognize and what ones they missed!
