Ford Celebrates As The Mustang Stampedes Past 10 Million Units

Today, with much deserved pomp and circumstance, Ford rolled the 10 millionth example of its Mustang off the production line at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant. That is a lot of cars. In fact, if you lined them all up bumper-to-bumper they could circle the globe with 1,200 miles to spare. To mark this occasion, the company gathered one of each model year at its World Headquarters and paraded to the Flat Rock Assembly Plant to join the milestone Mustang.

Shown here rolling off the Flat Rock assembly line, the 10 millionth Ford Mustang is a Wimbledon White 2019 GT convertible with a six-speed manual transmission. It puts out 460 horsepower, which is more than double what the first Mustang sold produced at 164 horsepower. (Photo Credit: Fox News)

As a hat tip to its origins, the 10 millionth Mustang was painted in Wimbledon White just like the first ever Mustang sold. It is a nicely optioned Mustang GT convertible that won’t be up for sale, however. Wearing 10,000,000 Mustang logos on the faux gas cap, door, and other spots, this car is sure to be a museum piece just like the first one, which it parked next to during the celebration. The original is a convertible equipped with a 164-horsepower V8 and a three-speed automatic.

“Mustang is the heart and soul of this company and a favorite around the world,” Jim Farley, president of global markets, Ford Motor Company, enthused. “I get the same thrill seeing a Mustang roll down a street in Detroit, London, or Beijing that I felt when I bought my first car — a 1966 Mustang coupe that I drove across the country as a teenager. Mustang is a smile-maker in any language.”

More than 60 owners brought Mustangs of all model years and assembled for a parade from Ford World Headquarters to the Flat Rock Assembly Plant as a tribute to the 10 millionth Mustang. They even spelled out the milestone with their cars in a parking lot, after which a P-51 Mustang fighter plane flew over its namesake automobiles in formation.

Indeed it is, and so was this celebration. With the Mustang still leading sales in the sportscar segment across the planet, we look forward to another 10 million Mustangs in the future.
