We all know that the car is not meant for flight by any means but sometimes there are people that break the limits and take it to the extreme for your entertainment. Whether it’s action-packed car movies, user-submitted YouTube videos, or just you’re buddies doing some ridiculous stuff, cars tend to make their way off the ground at times and usually don’t end very well as a result.
Tom Joslin from Jalopnik named his ultimate favorite car to go soaring through the air and he chose one of the classics, the 1973 “Eleanor” Mustang in the original Gone in 60 Seconds produced in 1974. Out of all of the personal videos and movies out there, someone knows a good car scene when he sees one. The Mustang in the original movie was launched 30 feet into the air by the junkyard-owner-turned-filmmaker, H.B. Halicki, in the grand finale.
However, the ending may have been spectacular but Halicki did compact 10 of his vertebrae after making the insanely long jump through the air while the Mustang suffered a fate much worse, the crusher most likely. It still showcased the large Mustang’s ability to soar through the air after crashing down hard onto the street. The stunt was real and 90% of the people in the movie were real and not actors. Also, the chase scene was unwritten and was plotted out while the police chased Halicki and the stolen 1973 Mustang through the streets ultimately nailing a 128 ft. jump and making the car soar 30 feet off of the ground. That was worth mentioning again. That definitely deserves some major respect and the title of best flying car, hands down.
