For years now, Americans could only watch across the Atlantic and dream about driving the sportier Focus RS. However, thanks to Ford’s newest “One Ford” policy, which ends Ford’s regional specialty products, its widely assumed that a meaner 2016 Focus RS is coming to the States.
Speculation was fueled even further when our friends at Autoevolution captured the above video of what appears to be a 2016 Focus RS lapping the infamous Nurburging. During the video, two versions of the RS are shown handling with such ease, that it led AutoEvolution to speculate about a possible New FWD Record at Nurburgring.
Now comes the question everyone has pondered… What lies under the hood?
Almost every news outlet is reporting that it is indeed the turbocharged 2.3L Ecoboost four lifted out of the 2015 Mustang. The Ecoboost engine is rated to produce 310 horsepower in the new Mustang, however a Road and Track report surfaced in August that has said that the Focus will produce 325-350hp.
For now, Ford has remained quiet, though all the rumors continue to build regarding everything from engine to drivetrain. For instance, we still don’t have confirmation on whether or not AWD will be available in the RS.
But lets be honest, if the new RS does not have AWD, will that really stop you from purchasing the new beast?
