Every year, the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration conducts literally thousands upon thousands of crash tests on essentially brand new, unspoiled cars. The NHTSA does this tests to both ensure that automakers are providing a safe product, and that so consumers will have something to gauge the relative safety of one car to another.
So when we came upon this collection of brief-but-brutal crash test videos starring the new 2013 Ford Mustang, we just knew we had to share.
The videos, three in total, are each just a few seconds long and show different impact tests on the 2013 Mustangs. Remember, these crashes were done to protect you, so say a silent thanks to the Mustang Gods for the noble sacrifice of FoMoCo. The NHTSA conducted frontal, side impact, and pole collision tests in these videos, and the results were very good, if not great.
In each of the impacts, the Mustang was rated at 4 out of 5 stars. This rating means that in the event of a similar accident, the chance of serious injury is about 11-20%. A 5 star rating would mean a less-than-10% chance of being injured, while 1 star indicates a more than 46% chance of being injured in an accident.
So not only is the Mustang a fast car, but it is pretty damn safe too. What more could you want?
