A couple of companies that we’re quite familiar with here on StangTV – American Muscle and Airaid – recently came together to perform an informative Race Cold Air Intake installation on a sharp-looking Mustang GT targeted at the enthusiast crowd, and of course we’d be remiss not to share it here with you, or enthusiast-minded readers.
As mentioned above, this installation revolves around Airaid’s Race Cold Air Intake assembly, which completely replaces the the stock factory air box and inlet tube to deliver a measured increase in overall air flow for improved horsepower, torque, and fuel economy, all while standing guard against harmful particles in the air. This Race system uses Airaid’s SynthaFlow filter technology to trap even the smallest of dirt particles, but not rob horsepower in the process. American Muscle has paired the Airaid CAI with an SCT Power Flash Tuner that features their own Bama Performance custom tunes that have been written specifically for the Mustang. Bama bases the tunes on a 19-point questionnaire to create the greatest power and performance gains possible for the given modifications to your ride. Just to be certain these tunes are accurate, the Bama Performance tunes are flogged on a Dynojet 224xLC chassis dyno in-house.
We’ll allow the video to speak for the installation, but the result of this simple-to-install new combination is – you guessed it – more horsepower and more torque. This Airaid system, like every air intake system they manufacture, is designed with the utmost in air flow in mind, and this setup delivered exactly that with a 35 horsepower and 30 ft/lbs of torque increase when paired with the Bama Performance custom 93 octane tune.
As the video points out, the Race Cold Air Intake system featured here is specifically designed for use on the 2005-2009 model year GT Mustangs equipped with the 3V 4.6L Modular engine. A computer re-tune utilizing an SCT/Bama Performance custom tuner is required to reprogram the computer for the the Airaid CAI.
