Ford is promising that the upcoming GT350 is going to be the most track capable Mustang in history. With the new 5.2 liter Voodoo engine under the hood, and MagneRide suspension helping control the car’s motion in the turns, there’s a lot of new technology in this car.
To help make sure the car is ready when owners take it to the track, Ford is wringing out test mules on the track at Virginia International Raceway. VIR is a great place to test the car, and further sort the balance between track capability and street manners. While we have a suspicion the car will feature a track mode, striking the proper balance will also be necessary.
Ford’s Dave Harmison says they’re using sensors to gather data for the complex computer that will control the MagneRide system. He also says that the car will offer a unique driving experience that’s different than other products. Harrmison noted that the MagneRide system allows the car to respond well on the race track, and at the same time it can adapt easily to the highway driving.
Perhaps the best part of this video are getting to hear the GT350 wide open. While we doubt that any of these blasts are wide open throttle clips, it’s still cool to finally hear the car under power, instead of just cruising by the cameras.
We can’t wait to get our hands on a GT350 and put it through the paces. This car represents a completely new era for Ford performance vehicles, and we’ll be interested to see how it does when we push it to the limits.
