For years the SCT SF3/X3 tuner was the go to tuner for a large number of Mustang and Ford enthusiasts. This tuner served the Mustang community well as it combined the ability to store multiple tunes into a single device, as well as acting as a diagnostic and data gathering tool.
This past fall we got our first look at SCT’s latest tuner the all new X4 during the SEMA show.
Recently LateModelRestoration.com had the opportunity to get their hands on the new X4 and put together a video showing some of highlights of this latest tuner from SCT. Right out of the box the physical size of the X4 is noticeably smaller than the model it’s replacing. Also gone is the small monochrome display, replaced with a much larger full color screen.
SCT has also designed the X4 so that the cord can be unplugged from the unit, making it easier to store. Another cool feature is the included suction cup which will allow users to mount the tuner to their windshield if they so choose.
What may not be apparent from the outside are some of the cool features that the X4 comes with. First and foremost the X4 will support the latest SCT tunes, and for Mustang owners that means Mustangs from 1996-2014 are supported. The X4 can hold up to 10 tunes, and can also read and clear diagnostic trouble codes, as well as serve as a data logging device. The suction cup mount also allows it to monitor and display data in real time, acting as a secondary display if desired.
One of the slickest features of the new X4 however is the built in WiFi capability. The X4 will not need to be paired to a Windows based PC in order to download updates. This is an advancement that could potentially revolutionize the world of tuning in terms of portability and updates.
The X4 is on sale now, and look for us to do a full review with this all new tuner as soon as SCT makes one available to us.
