The Ford Taurus SHO holds a special place in the hearts of Ford enthusiasts across America. That’s because the original Taurus SHO was an encroachment on the performance sedan market that had traditionally been the playscape of European and Japanese brands. Over the next decade, the Taurus SHO sort of lost its way, but Ford brought it back in a big way with the 2010 Taurus SHO powered by an EcoBoost V6.

Famed tuning shop Livernois Motorsports has been tuning and tweaking these new SHO’s since they first hit the streets. With a little engine magic, these guys can work wonders, which is why we have this next video of a Livernois-tuned SHO taking down a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8.

On paper, the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 should win this race every time. It has 470 horsepower and 470 ft-lbs of torque to the SHO’s stock ratings of 365/365, a more than 100 horsepower advantage. While both vehicles are equipped with all-wheel drive, neither one is a lightweight, with the SHO weighing in at over 4,400 pounds, and the Jeep tipping the scales at about 5,250.

In stock guise, the SRT8 will beat the SHO every time. But with a Livernois tune, the SHO goes from a 14-second car to a 12-second car, simple as that. We also imagine that the SHO gets a bit better gas mileage and in this writer’s humble opinion, it’s a better-looking ride too. It’s definitely faster too, so we know which one we’d want to drive down the drag strip.
