There is nothing quite like toasting your tires to put a smile on one’s face. The roar of a large-displacement V8, the squeal of roasting rubber, and the scent of toasted tire can put a smile on any gearhead’s face. As long as that burnout doesn’t end in disaster, of course.
The next video shows that even on new cars, a little too much tire-toasting can be a very bad thing. Watch as this late model Mustang goes from frying its tires to catching on fire. Yikes!
We’re not sure what competition this video comes from, though we can infer from the length of the burnout that this wasn’t just some tire warm up, but a competition. From the looks and sounds of it, this is a late-model S197 Mustang of 2010 and up vintage. The burnout starts off innocent enough, and produces quite the smoke show.
Then there is a loud pop and a fireball bursting from the tire. The driver quickly shuts it down, and luckily the fire doesn’t really catch. But it’s a scary moment, one without explanation, as after the smoke clears the tire looks just fine. We can’t figure out what caused this fireball and explosion, can you?
