The saying “a sight for sore eyes” doesn’t really apply in this case. Seeing a nice Mustang in shambles can make the average enthusiast cringe. You can bet that the guy who was driving this Mustang is indeed still cringing.
The Shelby GT500 Mustang was released in 2009 with a mean 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine for the Mustang lover wanting a fast production Mustang. With 540-horses this was sure to bring out the lead-footed fanatic in any car lover.
This European driver was playing around at the Granturismo Events 2012 at Spa Francorchamps in Belgium and ended up crashing his beloved Shelby Ford Mustang. According to the user YouTube description, there was the high pitched sound of a car going sideways, followed by a loud and low crashing sound. After a few minutes, the crashed Shelby arrived in the pit lane a bit mangled, looked as if it had suffered a hard hit.
He was most likely trying to show up some of those lighter Porsche or Lotus owners and didn’t maneuver it very well and lost control. The video shows the damage done to the Mustang with quite a few bumps and bruises and a bit of leaky fluid. Someone must have forgot about the rear leaf spring suspension setup and the problems the rear axles could cause on the track but kept on truckin’ along anyway.
Unfortunately, this pretty green Shelby GT500 won’t be showing up any Porsche or Lotus owners anytime soon.
