Ever since winning the 2010 Formula Drift Championship, Vaughn Gittin Jr. has become something of a “Made Man” for Ford. Not only has he started his own line of custom cars, the Mustang RTR brand, but Gittin has been featured heavily in Ford’s social media contests and marketing endeavors, giving him a chance to see the country and the world at the expense of his employer.
But when the cameras are off and the day is done, even Gittin likes to kick back and have a little fun with his boys. And how does a world champion racer have fun? He drifts through his own backyard track of course.
First though, Gittin gives us a brief walk-through of his garage, where he keeps his first-ever drift car, as well as the Mustang RTR-C concept car, and the first production model. Even cooler though is his drift-tuned Fox-body Mustang, which is what Gittin calls the “best kept secret in drifting.” In fairness this Ford man may be a bit biased.
Then it’s time to saddle up and play in the dirt with the fellow drifters like Ryan Tuerck, ripping across the homemade sand dunes and drift tracks in GIttin’s back yard. Most of their play-around cars are old and beat-up, though Gittin does get to have some fun in a Fiesta ST test car, proving you don’t need a big V8 to have some serious drifting fun.
