Well that didn’t take long.
Having had the new 2013 Shelby GT500 in their shop for just a few days and a few simple modifications, the group of gearheads at Evolution Performance managed to get an extra 50 horsepower and 50 ft-lbs of torque out of the Shelby from a simple tune. And after running a teasingly-close 10.02 @ 141 mph, the fellows at Evolution have finally broken into the single digits.
Yup, it’s true; Evolution Performance recently ran a 9.95 @ 142 mph, making them the first shop to take a 2013 Shelby into the 9’s.
And it wasn’t even that hard. The Shelby supposedly has a stock engine, stock supercharger, and stock transmission, which limits the possible modifications. A tune was almost certainly added, exhaust modifications, and a smaller blower pulley surely helped the Shelby breathe better and make more power. We’ll know soon enough what it took to get a Shelby GT500 into the 9’s, though from the sounds of it…not much.
Evolution Performance has really become the vanguard in modern Mustang performance, laying claim to the fastest 2011+ Mustang and now the first 2013 Shelby GT500 in the single digits. We do know that a full-suspension setup helped the Shelby squat down and deliver the power where it was needed…but what other magic did Evolution sprinkle on the 2013 Shelby to make it so fast?
