Video: Two Classic Mustangs In A German Street Race

Once upon a time, America had no greater enemy than ze Germans. After World War II, the Soviet menace replaced the German’s as America’s primary enemy, paving the way to improve Saxon-American relations in areas like industry, communications, and of course, cars. A little known fact is that the Germans got their own Mustang, which they had to call the T-5 due to copyright issues. But many other Germans preferred to import real American muscle in the Fatherland, which is why we have this next video to show you.

It’s a brief-but-fun video riding shotgun as two Ford Mustangs from Germany partake in a little light-to-light racing action.

The video, less than 30 seconds in length, appears to have come from Kupa Mustangs, a well-known Germany importer of classic Mustangs. In this video, the two Mustangs in question are a ‘68 Mustang with a 289 V8 racing against a ‘72 Mustang with a 351 Cleveland. Yes, these are indeed great American classics, and while neither car appears to be for sale, it seems Kupa may also dabble in renting these great American classics…for a nominal fee, of course.

There’s actually two video cameras at work here, one in the ‘72, the other in a chase car (another Mustang mayhaps??) So we get a good angle on the ‘68 leaving the ‘72 in the dust. The obvious reasons for this victory are lighter weight, fewer emissions restrictions, and probably a better driver in the ‘68 to boot. Good to see that ze Germans can have a good ol’ time in some classic American muscle though.
