Eagle Specialty Products is on overdrive developing stroker kits for popular engines. At this year’s SEMA Show the company promoted kits for the Ford 4.6 Mod motor, Chrysler late-model Hemi and the GM LS. In addition, Eagle showed off a new Extreme Duty connecting rod.
“All have forged 4340 steel crankshafts,” says Eagles Alan Davis. “These are for street and drag applications. We also have the ESP Armor option for the crankshafts.”
The Armor option is a proprietary surface-finishing process that does not use chemicals or electrolysis-type procedures. Eagle also also stresses that Armor is not a coating but rather process the metal to a mirror-like finish that wards off oil and moisture.
The Ford kit includes a stock or 3.750-stroke crank that features .125 radiuses. Eagle claims these cranks are 22 percent stronger than factory models. Also in the kit are Arias forged 2618 alloy pistons designed for 2V, 3V and 4V applications with a variety of compression ratios available. Rounding out the kit are forged 4340 H-beam connecting rods with 3.8-inch ARP 2000 bolts and premium bearings.
“Naturally aspirated and boosted compression ratios are available for the kit,” says Davis. “Increasing the displacement adds a lot of stress to the crank. If you want boost or nitrous, these cranks will withstand the pressure while the factory can’t.”
The Hemi kit offers a 4.050-inch stroke crank with 2.0-inch rod journals, .125-inch radiuses and either a 32- or 58-tooth reluctor wheel. This kit features Mahle forged pistons with a graphite skirt coating and forged 4340 H-beam rods with a choice of ARP 8740, ARP 2000 or L19 bolts. The kit for the 5.7-liter engine can boost displacement up to 6.5 liter while the 6.1-liter kit increases engine size up to 7.0-liter.
Eagle makes LS stroker kits to fit the 4.8L, 5.3L, 5.7L, 6.0L, 6.2L and 7.0L engines. Included are a forged crank with 24- or 58-tooth reluctor and standard or long snout and forged 4340 H-beam rods with 7/16-inch bolts (ARP 8740, ARP 2000 or L19 available). Forged 2618 or 4032 pistons (Arias or Mahle) with numerous compression ratios and bore sizes are also offered.
Eagle’s Extreme Duty connecting rod is constructed from a proprietary nickel/chromium steel that exceeds 4340 standards for tensile and yield strength. The rods feature extensive surface finishing to remove imperfections and improve resistance to fatigue. ARP Custom Age 625+ 3/8-inch bolts are rated to 270,000 psi tensile strength.
Eagle also makes stroker kits for the Chrysler late-model Hemi, left; and here's another view of the GM LS kit on the right.
“They’re good up to 1,200 horsepower on 4-cylinder engines,” adds Davis.
The Extreme Duty line currently covers Honda, Subaru, Nissan, Toyota and Mitsubishi engines with additional applications coming.
