Over the last couple of months, the team at DMC Racing has been preparing Tim Meagher’s incredible blue coupe for X275 action on the East Coast. Meagher, whose business has taken off this summer, hasn’t been able to get into the driver’s seat, but he enlisted DMC employee and noted hotshoe Eric LaFerriere to take the wheel. Last weekend at the X275 race held at New England Dragway, LaFerriere went wire-to-wire in an awesome day of racing. 

LaFerriere, who won the previous NED X275 event in this same car, qualified at the top of the ladder with a 4.85 at 151 MPH in the heat of the day over Tony Skojec’s 5.05 at 140 MPH. The Meagher/LaFerriere machine relies on a big 440 cubic inch Nelson Competition engine topped off with an 88mm turbocharger to find the top qualified spot. Once in competition, LaFerriere used a first-round bye to test the track to an improved 4.83 at only 149 MPH, done under ace chassis builder Dennis MacPherson’s watchful eye.

LaFerriere tunes on the machine, using his years of experience with both small- and 10.5W-tire cars to apply the right amount of power for the conditions. He got a gift in round two versus Tony Gomes, who left before the tree activated, then lined up with Don Kinder’s Firebird in the semifinal round. There, LaFerriere and Co. improved yet again to a 4.79 at 152 MPH to Kinder’s 5.27 at 130 MPH blast.

The final round set up a battle of the number one and two qualifiers, as Skojec had taken out his side of the ladder in his nitrous machine. LaFerriere, however, continued his roll and improved yet again, clicking off a 4.781 at 152.92 MPH to take home the win and reset his own class record at this track. This machine just keeps getting quicker every time out, and we fully expect to see it compete for all the marbles at the Yellowbullet Nationals later on this summer. It should be one heck of a show!
