Project Blackout at the AM show this summer

Our friends over at the American Muscle headquarters have just about finished one of their latest creations, Project Blackout. If you’ve heard of it, you’ll be excited to know that it has just finished the last stage of the build. If you haven’t been keeping up, check out what’s been going on so far.

In the earlier stages modifications included a JLT Performance Carbon Fiber cold air intake, a SCT SF3/X3 Power Flash Tuner, a black JLT oil separator on the passenger side, and a Hurst Billet Plus 2 shifter. They installed a Pypes Pype-Bomb Super System Catback Exhaust connected to a Pypes X-pipe and added an Accel Super Coil On Plug kit.

The exterior was given a more aggressive attitude with a CDC (Classic Design Concepts) Chin Spoiler, a black Retro Billet Grille and Raxiom Halo Smoked Projector headlights and smoked exterior parts including side markers, tail lights, third brake light, and smoked quarter marker light tint. The back features a MMD Rear Decklid Panel and the wheels of choice were staggered American Muscle Charcoal AMRs wrapped with a Sumitomo tires.

However, just recently during Stage 3, it received an RTR makeover. AM installed their pre-painted quarter window louvers, RTR Rear Diffuser, the RTR spoiler, AM pre-painted side scoops, Roush side rocker panel splitters, as well as a TruFiber 3-inch cowl hood. To get the suspension perfect, an Eibach Pro-System Plus kit was added with J&M rear lower control arms and adjustable panhard rod, Ford Racing 4.10 gears, and a JPC Racing adjustable upper control arm. The drivetrain was overhauled with an Eaton 31 Spline Limited Slip Differential, an all-aluminum one-piece driveshaft plus a rear gear pinion bearing.

Now on to the latest modifications from Stage 4! What was added now? For one, a Hellion 67mm Single Turbo Kit with low boost was installed behind the front bumper. On top of that they added the Ford Racing Boss 302 Intake Manifold and a Ford Racing 90mm Throttle body. Of course a Bama Performance custom tune was added and by the end of the day it produced 601 horsepower down to the tires. Is that good enough for the guys at AmericanMuscle? Not a chance. They swapped out the current 67mm turbo for a bigger Precision 76mm turbo and was able to put 658 horses down to the ground. Also Ford Racing colder spark plugs, Kenne Bell Boost a Pump, and Ford Racing 80 lb. fuel injectors.

Track time proved that Project Blackout was indeed capable of making the 11’s with an 11.07 second pass going 125 MPH. However, local track rules held back the AM guys from getting into the 10 second range and must return with a nice roll cage for Project Blackout. Looks like they’ll be returning to the track with some serious track accessories to see what it can really throw down. However, it didn’t do to too shabby!
