The new 2013 Ford F-150, when outfitted with the 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine, makes 365 horsepower and 420 ft./lbs. of torque – a nice stout number for a vehicle that’s rated to tow 11,000 pounds. The EcoBoost F150, thanks to its turbocharged, direct-injection design, is ripe for aftermarket improvements and Full Race Motorsports, one of the leading aftermarket four- and six-cylinder turbocharging specialists, used SCT Custom Tuning to put their winning touch on one for PRI. Ford Motor Company collaborated with Full Race’s engineers to put build a wicked single-turbo conversion for the 3.5L V6. With a goal of 500 horsepower and “keeping a truck a truck”, Full Race worked with Borg Warner to optimize turbo selection for more power and torque, installing one of their EFR turbochargers before turning to the SCT software to bring it all together. Also on the SCT front, longtime company-sponsored racer Mike Murillo wrapped up the 13th and 14th class championships of his racing career this season by taking home the NMRA Pro Outlaw 10.5 title along with the NMCA’s Super Street title. In addition, Murillo also captured the big-cheese $10,000 pot at the Street Car Super Nationals just two weeks ago against the toughest Outlaw 10.5 racers in the world. He and his team have had a fantastic season by anyone’s expectations – combine that with the fact that Murillo won the same two class championships last season and you start to realize what makes him such a great champion. Murillo has been using SCT’s tuning software exclusively at his shop, Murillo Motorsports, in San Antonio, Texas. They also use one of SCT’s handheld tuners on their tow rig. Truly an icon of the sport of drag racing.
