A couple of weeks ago we brought you video of what appears to be the 2016 SVT GT350 Mustang making laps at the Nurburgring. We’re not sure if this was the racing spec version of the car or the street going model. However, we were delighted to see the car on a track wearing much less camouflage than it previously had been.
Today we came across a series of spy photos from Carscoops that have been put together in a slideshow video. These photos show the driver of the GT350 nearly losing it on the Nurburgring as he exits the carousel section of the track. The car slides towards the left guardrail, then spins back across the track. It’s a narrow miss and a mistake that would likely have caused Ford great embarrassment and a test driver or engineer his job.
Something else that we noticed from the images in the video are the additional changes to the GT350s front bumper and nose that we hadn’t noticed before. It may be a result of the camo however, the nose of the car has an acute downward slant on the grille or the top of the grille overhangs the lower portion more than it does on the standard Mustang models. This tester also lacks the multi-piece wheels that we saw on the other car that was making laps at the test track. We’re wondering if this wasn’t the street going version while the other was the racing version.
There’s no way to know for sure, and any other details about this car, including that it even exists are information Ford doesn’t care to release at this time. Yesterday we reported rumors that the GT350 could be debuting this September, possibly at the IMSA race at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. Once we have more information on the new car we’ll be sure to report it here.
