Each December we’re either finishing up Christmas shopping or waiting for Christmas Eve to start, and finish our shopping. Evidently, according to Ford’s sales numbers, many people did their shopping at Ford and Lincoln dealers. Ford Motor Company posted its best December sales numbers since 2005. Hmm, a new Mustang debuted in 2005, as well, just like this year. Coincidence…we think not.
Anyway, Ford sold 220,671 vehicles, including a ’15 Mustang to this author’s sister. Not only that, but Ford remains America’s best-selling vehicle brand for the fifth straight year. Yeah, we’re a little biased, but Ford is building some really good cars right now. The Escape had its best-ever December and a record sales number for the year. After its first full year of production, the Explorer had its best sales year since 2005.
Speaking of family haulers, 300,000 Fusions found their way into new driveways and garages in 2014, while Ford’s F-Series remained America’s best-selling truck for the 38th straight year, and best-selling vehicle for the 33rd straight year. The Transit van, which we’re starting to see more of, sold over 10,000 units, and the Transit Connect sold over 5,000 units.
Sales of our beloved Mustang continued to rise in December with new Mustang sales at 9,511 units ending up in your driveway, thanks largely to the new 2015 Mustang hitting dealerships. Those numbers are 66-percent higher than last year, and represented the highest number of Mustangs sold in December since 2006.
Not to be outdone, Lincoln also posted 9,690 vehicles sold, which is up 21-percent versus last December for its best results since 2009. As a whole, Lincoln sales were up 16-percent in 2014, making it the brand’s best year since 2008. The MKC did very well since its launch, selling 2,310 units, and possibly thanks to decreased gas prices, Lincoln’s Navigator sales jumped 90-percent in December, with 1,792 vehicles sold.
2014 ended on a high note for Ford, and we’re hopeful 2015 will be a record setting year.
