The guys over at American Muscle and BAMA Performance were the first to take a 2015 Mustang into the 9s. They did it with nitrous and several other modifications, including putting their 2015 Mustang GT on a diet. Now they’re looking to go even faster with the release of the BAMA Performance 2015 Mustang GT Supercharger kit.
Based on a 2.9-liter Whipple supercharger, the complete kit from BAMA provides everything needed to get a 2015 Mustang up and running with boost. This includes injectors, boost a pump, spark plugs, BAMA tuning support, and more. Kits will be available for different power levels as well. The supercharger is a front fed design and comes with a 123mm mass air flow sensor housing, and a 132mm elliptical throttle body.
On the BAMA/AM test car, this kit made 687 hp and 510 lbs-ft torque to the rear tires. With winter holding on for a few more weeks at AM and BAMA headquarters in Pennsylvania, the crew headed south to North Carolina, for some drag testing. This testing was done on an 1/8-mile drag strip. The car ran nearly identical 1/8-mile times as it did with nitrous, and the BAMA team felt that there was more on the table, as the combination had more usable RPM that couldn’t be taken advantage of on the shorter drag strip.
We suspect the BAMA guys will be going mid if not low 9s when spring finally arrives. We had a couple of interesting thoughts we had as we watched this video and project. First of all, in spite of the IRS, the 2015 Mustang seems plenty capable on the drag strip. Granted the IRS does need some upgrades, it’s still not bad. Also, will BAMA and American Muscle be the first to go 8s in a 2015 Mustang with IRS? We’ll probably find out the answer to that question this spring.
