If you haven’t heard the news, the 2017 Scottsdale, Arizona, auction from Barrett-Jackson just took place last weekend–with tons of vehicles from The Big Three being auctioned off a premium prices. And then you have vehicles like this Mustang–a 50th anniversary 2015 Shelby GT350. Any Blue Oval fan worth their weight in motor oil will automatically know just how important (and how rare) the 2015 Shelby GT350 and GT350Rs are.
However, for those of you who aren’t aware, not to fear–we’re here to educate you. Today’s history lesson is of course on the 50th anniversary Shelby GT350/GT350R Mustangs. For the 2015 model year, Ford produced 137 Shelby GT350/GT350R 50th anniversary edition models–100 of those being GT350s, and the remaining 37 being GT350Rs in honor of the original 34 GT350Rs produced in 1965.
Now picture this 50th anniversary 2015 Shelby GT350 above at auction. Being only two years old by today’s date, this Shelby Mustang is #124 of the aforementioned 137, and one of 50 equipped with the Track Package. This example even included all of the original documents, and it only had 337 miles on its odometer at the time of the auction. This particular Shelby GT350 sold at auction for a mere $91,300.
Considering that it auctioned off for nearly double the original window sticker, that doesn’t seem like a bad payday–does it? While it’s not a bad payout by any means, we can’t help but wonder to ourselves if this Shelby undersold. So now, we pose the question to our readers: Do you think this Shelby could have reaped more of a profit had the owner waited longer to sell it? We’d venture to say yes.
