Netherlands-based AST Suspension and the company’s premium Moton Suspension line are well known throughout Europe as one of the top producers of reliable high-performance shock absorbers for professional racers and enthusiasts. The AST/Moton product line can be found in use on vehicles from every level of motorsport; from basic streetcars and weekend racers, all the way up to World Time Attack, 24 Hours of Le Mans, FIA GT, FIA Sportscar Championship, FIA ETCC, FIA WTCC Championship, Grand-Am, and the World Challenge Championship just to name a few.
While at the 2016 Performance Racing Industry trade show, we couldn’t pass up the chance to stop by their booth and talk to the company’s engineer, Julian van Dijken, to see what new products AST has coming our way.
Van Dijken was quick to show us their new line of 5100 series single adjustable coilovers for the latest generation Ford Mustang. “The Mustang is a heavy car with large wheels, we noticed with previous Mustang kits that there was quite a bit more deflection in the strut than your average car, so our first step for the strut design was making it much stronger for repeated abuse by racing applications; but will also play nicely on the street,” says Dijken.
“This is our single rebound adjustable 5100 kit, which we consider to be track ready but also happens to be street friendly,” Dijken explains. “The minimum height adjustment can vary from 30 mm all the way up to 70 or 80 mm; we can also customize this for track cars so that they can be further lowered.”
