Watson Racing returns to sponsor the exciting NMRA all Cobra Jet event at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Bradenton, Florida from March 3-6. The Ford Performance Cobra Jet Showdown, will serve as center stage for the baddest CJ’s in the nation during the NMRA Spring Break Shootout.
“Cobra Jets have had amazing success on the track and truly showcase Blue Oval power, and the Cobra Jet Showdown gives CJ owners another great opportunity to experience what their Cobra Jets can do,” said Steve Wolcott, NMRA’s CEO. “The NMRA Spring Break Shootout is the place to be for Ford racing fans … and the addition of the Ford Performance Cobra Jet Showdown further adds to an already incredible event. A big thank you to Watson Racing for sponsoring this class and supporting Cobra Jet owners around the U.S.”
We caught up with John Calvert owner of Calvert Racing Suspension, owner and driver of multiple Cobra Jets, and a past NMRA Cobra Jet Showdown event winner, who said this about his experiences, “I may not be able to compete in the Cobra Jet Showdown every year, but I try to make it a point to make it to the Ford Performance Cobra Jet Showdowns whenever possible.
“Testing on February 7 will determine if we’ll make the event, and which CJ we will race, if not both, I’ll be entering into the shootout if we make it this year. I like to be where the action is, and if that requires me to go all the way to Florida, then that is what I’ll do to compete against the best CJ’s in the country.”
Outside of the NHRA, the NMRA shootout events are the only chance to see Ford’s famed Cobra Jets pitted against one another. This class is set to qualify on Friday, March 4, a tenth of a second is then subtracted form the competitors’ quickest e.t. during qualifying to solidify their index, handicap, and breakout for eliminations.
The Cobra Jet Showdowns has a $2,500 purse on the line. The winner takes home $1,000, along with a custom showdown jacket and award. Make sure to attend the NMRA Spring Break Shootout to catch the wheel stating action of these factory stock race cars, along with many other exciting classes. And, be sure to keep it locked on StangTV – we will be onsite at the event to cover all the action and bring you live coverage!
