Granatelli Motor Sports has included 2011-13 Ford Mustangs to their lineup of Coil-On-Plug Coil Packs, offering better fuel economy and performance. In the YouTube video above, GMS tested a 2011 Ford Mustang 5.0 with a stock tune; the only modification done to the car is a GMS axle-back exhaust.
The first dyno run with the stock COP saw 363.4 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 326.6 foot-pounds of torque at 4,350 rpm. After installing their Hot Street Series Coil Packs, they were able to pick up 13 peak horsepower and 15 foot-pounds of torque. The impressive part, though, is that from 2,000 to 6,800 rpm the average horsepower increased by 16, with an average increase in torque of 18 foot-pounds.
These increases are mostly due to the design of their COP, which replaces the factory spring inside the coil with their stainless steel braided ‘rope’. With this design, resistance is decreased because of the larger surface area, making it a better conductor for current to travel. And there are no worries about electromagnetic interference with this design, RFI/EMI is suppressed due to their protection ring that is place on the connector itself.
GMS offers four kits for your Coyote-powered Mustang: starting with their 35,000 volt MPG kit for better fuel economy and their 40,000 volt Hot Street kit for better performance with street applications. If you plan on boosting your Coyote, GMS recommends their 60,000 volt Pro Series kit for low boost applications, and the 65,000 volt kit for higher boost.
