British racing driver Justin Bell is no stranger to American muscle cars, having piloted a Dodge Viper on the GT2 circuit and a Chevy Corvette in the World Endurance Championship at races like the 24 Hours of Le Mans. These days though Bell is more likely to be found behind a camera than a race car steering wheel, though he still has a soft spot for muscle cars.
In this episode of the World’s Fastest Car Show, Bell heads to SoCal and visits Galpin Auto Sports to play with Ford’s Mustang Customizer, designing the pony car of his dreams. Then GAS went ahead and built the exact car Justin was hoping for.
Part extended commercial, part glimpse into the Mustang customization process, GAS employees show Justin how Ford’s own online customization tool is powerful enough that he can design whatever car he wants. Justin explains what he is looking for, something that is a reflection of his racing heritage.
GAS Chief Designer, Beau Boeckmann, went even further than Justin’s design, dropping the Mustang’s ride height by about an inch and a half with the help of a Ford Racing Parts suspension. GAS also added a louder Bassani exhaust system, Niche Road Wheels, a 9-piece 3D Carbon body-kit, racing stripes, and white 5.0 badges to match the wheel and stripe theme. Then, to top it all off, Justin helped the team recreate a photo from Ford’s customizer website, burnout and all. We’d say job well done all around.
