When we posted this video of the 2015 Shelby Super Snake last week, we focused mainly on the car’s testing abilities, and that amazing supercharger whine. While today’s video surely isn’t a Super Snake, this time – it’s all about that flat-plane crank 5.2 liter’s exhaust goodness.
Our search on YouTube for awesome stuff to bring to you guys is always continuing: and when we stumbled across user Autogefühl and his video of a GT350 and a GT350R chasing each other around a track, we just had to share this with you guys.
Say hello to pure engine and exhaust noise with no crappy music edited in.
As I’m sure you all know by now, the reason these pair of Mustangs have such a unique engine and exhaust note is due to their high revving flat-plane crank designed engine, which allows these Shelby’s to produce 526 horsepower at 7500 rpm and 429 lb-ft of torque at 4750 rpm.
Contributing to that amazing sound is the 4-into-3-into-1 designed exhaust manifolds, which were designed to maximize the 5.2 liter’s wide power-band while producing extremely low back pressure. And of course the variable exhaust system contributes a ton, which can be toggled shown here.
And while the GT350’s engine does come out of the same production line as the 5.0 in Ontario, Canada – that’s about the only thing they both have in common.
Over the past few years, Ford has really shown some vast improvements in not only the Mustang, but its entire whole lineup – and we think the Shelby GT350 and GT350R are truly a testament to that.
