For 2013, the big news out of the Ford Mustang lineup was the huge power boost given to the Shelby GT500. The 2013 model year gets an incredible 650 horsepower from its 5.8 liter supercharged engine – enough to propel the Shelby to a top speed of over 200 mph. Getting your hands on this hot number won’t be easy though, and the guys who went out and recently bought a new (but not 2013 new) Shelby might feel a little left behind.
Enter the famed Tasca Mod Shop. Based out of Cranston, Rhode Island, this old-school Ford dealership has been modifying Mustangs since they first rolled out of Detroit. Now they have a new package called the “Dominator” for 2007-12 Shelby GT500 Mustangs that takes elements of the 2013 model and puts them on to the older models.
The result is an inherently badass Shelby that in many ways actually surpasses the 2013 Shelby model, and for a considerable bargain. A new 2.9 liter Whipple supercharger, dual bore 65 mm throttle body, and an upgraded fuel system help boost power to 750 ponies and 719 ft-lbs of torque. That’s a 100 horsepower increase over the much-ballyhooed 2013 Shelby GT500.
But that’s not all! The package also includes a short-throw shifter and an SVT suspension upgrade package that adds lowering springs, control arms, and an adjustable panhard bar. The brakes get upgraded as well, rounding out the $13,499 kit, which is a veritable bargain in the world of supercharged Mustang packages. The Dominator package is available exclusively for 2007-12 Shelby GT500 Mustangs.
There are other options as well for an additional cost, but for under $14,000 you can take your Shelby GT500 and upgrade it to the next level, surpassing your buddies who get even the brand new 2013 Shelby GT500. They won’t know what hit them.
