To hear him tell it, Carroll Shelby was an “imagineer”, not an engineer. And though the automotive legend may have borrowed that terminology from one Walt Disney, we get what we was saying. Shelby built cars by the seat of his pants, rather than crunching numbers on a computer all day. But those numbers nerds have helped spawn what many will one day consider as the best muscle car of its day; the 2013 Shelby GT500.

Ford has put out another brief video highlighting the “stats” of the 2013 Shelby GT500, and within you’ll find some of the last video footage of Shelby himself.

Of course the heart of this beast is the 5.8 liter supercharged V8 engine cranking out 662 horsepower and 630 ft-lbs of torque. The Ford engineers knew that this was a once-in-a-lifetime chance to do something really special with the Shelby, and they didn’t squander the opportunity. That is why we have such an awesome Shelby up for sale today.

The video goes on to talk technical stuff between Shelby and the engineers, and the famed carmaker seems rightly impressed with their work. It’s good to see that Mr. Shelby had a chance to enjoy the best GT500 ever made before passing on…but it also makes us miss the man even more. At least a great car will help carry on his legacy for future generations to enjoy.
