Well the weekend was not kind to 2010 Formula Drift Champion Vaughn Gittin Jr. The Mustang drifting master had to settle for second place overall after a season fraught with highs and lows. Yet Gittin has plenty of things to look forward to during the offseason, including the filming of some awesome videos like the one you’re about to watch.
Someone at Ford thought it’d be a good idea to give Gittin free reign over the Flat Rock Assembly Plant, where the Ford Mustang is built. After a bumpy start, Gittin takes his powerful Mustang out on the test track, driving and drifting around a whole batch of brand new Mustangs. One mistake would be expensive!
But being the professional that he is, Gittin manages to avoid any such mistakes. Instead, he takes his race-prepped Mustang across the bump stops before drifting his way onto the outdoor test course that all Mustangs must manage. Ford tests all its cars before sending them to dealerships in such a manner, though Gittin definitely gets a bit extreme with his testing methods.
There are definitely some drifting and camera techniques here pioneered by another Ford Racing driver, the one and only Ken Block. We couldn’t help but be reminded by Block’s particular style of Gymkhana racing, and both Block and Gittin have been known to be buddy buddy. Who knows? Maybe Gittin and Block will switch seats for next year’s series of races. Now that would be cool.
Anyways, kick back and enjoy this video of Vaughn Gittin Jr. drifting it up at the Mustang factory.
