In just a few short weeks (March 6-9, 2014), the NMRA Cobra Jet Showdown will take place in conjunction with the NMRA’s Spring Break Shootout at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida.
The Cobra Jet Showdown has become the ideal race for Cobra Jet owners to kick off their race season. The NMRA has created a great event for the Cobra Jet owners to compete or test their cars prior to the NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville the following week. While Carl Tasca and Roy Hill’s Cobra Jets may not be legal for Super Stock Eliminator, the two legendary drag racers have a great time reviving the Match Race Madness that grew the sport in the 1960’s.
They are set to run off at the NMRA’s Cobra Jet Showdown in a best two-of three (or maybe three of five!) match race at the event, and this could be the site of the first side-by-side Cobra Jet seven-second pass.
Carl Tasca’s Cobra Jet runs the 5.4L DOHC engine backed by a five-speed manual transmission; while Hill’s car uses the same engine, he has a two-speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission in the tunnel. Both cars rely on the huge-by-large 4.0L Whipple twin-screw supercharger for boosted motivation.
Although both cars have small modifications that make them illegal for Super Stock competition, they’ll be on hand to thrill the crowd with side-by-side wheelstands and killer passes from their Ford factory-built supercars.
StangTV will be on the premises of Bradenton Motorsports Park all weekend long bringing you same-day race coverage – we’ll be sure to keep an eye on these two legends of the sport as they attempt to set Ford racing history!
