Video: Hennessey-Prepped Ford GT Makes Record 9.3-Second Pass

A sense of style goes hand-in-hand with drag racing, but it certainly isn’t at the top of the list of importance. Most of the cars you see at the track are purpose-built machines that only have a single goal, to go really fast. After that, comes the looks part, as some racers do like to have a race car that has show quality attributes that can be anything from killer paint to wheels and even a certain stance. Then there’s the breed of gearheads like Jason “Mullet” Steven that build cars that take performance and looks to a whole new level.

gtJason recently reset the Ford GT 1/4-mile record with his Hennessy Performance-built GT1000 that has a bit of extra spice that helps it rip down the 1320 in the 9.30’s at over 150 MPH.

The Ford GT is based on the iconic Ford GT40 from the 1960s, which Ford commissioned for the sole purpose of smacking Ferrari in the mouth at LeMans.  The Ford GT was brought back in 2004 in a way that captured the spirit of the original while infusing modern technology. Ford only produced the GT from 2004-2006 and only made 4,038 units.  The car rolled off the line with a 5.4L supercharged engine in a mid-chassis configuration backed by a stout Ricardo 6-speed transmission.

Having anything stock is just not acceptable for Jason, and this is evident by his collection of cars that includes a UGR Lamborghini that makes well north of 1,000 HP to the wheels. So, when it came to his Ford GT, Hennessey’s HPE1000 was the only answer to get the required power levels. The modified Ford GT gets a set of 67mm ball bearing turbos, and stainless steel exhaust and down pipes are added to help in the breathing process for the engine. The fuel system is heavily upgraded to feed this beastly combo all while keeping the factory supercharger sitting on top of everything. All of this was not enough for this car to get the “Mullet” stamp of approval, so Jason added a nice hit of nitrous for good measure. Check out the video from High Tech Corvette showing what this Ford GT can do.
