So far the rumors regarding the 2015 Ford Mustang have been, for the most part, true. The 2015 Mustang will indeed offer a four-cylinder, 2.3 liter EcoBoost turbo engine, and the 5.0 liter V8 and 3.7 liter V6 are sticking around as well. The Mustang also evokes the Ford Evos concept, without going too soft, and it’s loaded with all sorts of high-tech features, like push-button start and MyFord Touch.
But what of the other Mustang, the Shelby model? Rumor has it that the GT500 will be discontinued in favor of reviving the GT350 name. This video from downtown L.A. purports to capture that very car testing on the street’s of America’s western capital, and what’s of interest is what we aren’t hearing.
Namely, there’s no obvious sounds of forced induction coming from this loud Mustang. No supercharger whine or turbocharger whistle, which at first made us question if this wasn’t just a Mustang GT model. Not that the new Mustang doesn’t sound absolutely delectable because whatever is under all that camo sure sounds sweet. But Ford has already let the world see the Mustang both via the internet and up-close-and-personal at two public auto shows. So why keep a Mustang GT hidden?
The obvious answer is that this must be an as-yet unlaunched model, like the Shelby GT350. But what if it’s something a bit more benign, like the rumored Mach 1 model that could get a hotter body kit and suspension setup? Perhaps the next Shelby model sticks with a more-powerful but naturally-aspirated engine, breaking the tradition of previous SVT models of the last 11 years? Or maybe this really is just a 2015 Mustang GT under a whole lotta camouflage. What do you think ?
