The Ford Mustang has always been offered with a convertible version, except for the dark period of time known as the “Mustang II.” For the 50th anniversary of the Mustang, Ford has made a host of improvements with the all new S550 platform from the front of the pony car to the back, and this was doubly true for the 2015 Mustang Convertible. Ford detailed those improvements to the 2015 Mustang in a recent press release, giving sun worshipers new reason to rejoice.

The biggest, and most immediately obvious change is to the roof-latching system, which has been reduced from two hooks on the side to a single center latch. This literally cuts the time it takes to latch or unlatch the top in half, and also means you no longer have to awkwardly stretch your way across the car just to put the top down.

Speaking of which, Ford also cut down on how long it took it takes the convertible top top to fold up or down in half. The new system takes only about 8-seconds, which will be a big boon should the weather suddenly turn sour. Ford also worked to reduce the “unsightly folds” of traditional convertible tops, as well as reducing the noise of the electric motor.

The new independent rear suspension also helped free up trunk space in the 2015 Mustang convertible with 11.4 cubic feet of space, compared to just 9.6 cubic feet in the 2014 droptop. The 2015 Mustang convertible promises plenty of fun in the sun when it hits dealerships.
