AFM Power Pipes Offer Dyno Proven Performance Gains For Mustangs

The guys over at Anderson Ford Motorsport know how to get improve a Mustang’s airflow. Their power pipes have been making more horsepower on Mustangs for nearly two decades now. The Power Pipe has been on championship winning cars in multiple NMRA classes and is a favorite of street and strip going Mustangs.

There are several factors that make the AFM Power Pipe Work. The first of those is its larger diameter than stock. That diameter is four-inches and AFM has found its the optimal size for everything from nearly bone stock engines all the way up to highly modified racers. The pipe is constructed from mandrel bent aluminum and on naturally aspirated applications it moves the mass air flow sensor and air filter to the inner fender. Doing this allows the engine to draw in a cooler air charge and the mandrel bends allow for a smoother air path.

Testing of a power pipe, part number AF-0112A, on a 302 with a stock short block and AFM top end kit resulted in an increase of 8 hp and 17 ft-lbs of torque at the rear tires. Those power increases are noticed nearly all the way through the dnyo graph, showing that the Power Pipe works at all RPM levels and doesn’t just deliver a big peak number at the top end.

Forced induction applications love the Power Pipe even more than their naturally aspirated cousins. In these applications the Power Pipe replaces the inlet pipe for a centrifugal supercharger like those from Vortech, Paxton or Pro Charger.

By providing a smoother air path for the supercharger, as well as one that is larger in diameter, and the benefits of a cooler air from outside the cabin the Power Pipe gives proven results in forced induction Mustangs. On a supercharged 4.6 two-valve engine used for this example with a an AFM Power Pipe, part number AF-0114A added to the car over the inlet that came with the supercharger, the AFM Power Pipe allowed for a gain of 2.5 psi of boost and 21 hp at the rear tires.

AFM Offers power pipes to fit most modern Mustang applications. For more information check out the AFM web-site.
