Finishing third overall and first in class, ROUSH Performance drivers Billy Johnson, of San Clemente CA, and Jaime Lyons, of Madison, WI, persisted through the 8-day, 3,500-mile event, taking a backseat only to a 2010 Nissan GTR and a 2011 Porsche Turbo S. Billy and Jaime were also awarded Rookie of the Year honors from Brock Yates at the end of the event.
A second ROUSH Performance entry, driven by Jack Roush Jr, of Livonia, MI, and “Jay” Ronald Velthoven of Brighton, MI, placed second in class and eleventh overall. Both teams were driving newly-built ROUSH Stage 3 Mustangs, assembled as any customer can order through their authorized Ford dealer.
Finishing third in class behind the Mustangs was a factory-backed 2011 Dodge 392 Challenger SRT8, driven by Erich Heuschele, an SRT vehicle dynamics manager, with two co-drivers.
The Tire Rack One Lap of America started early on Saturday morning, April 30, at the Tire Rack headquarters in Indiana. The event also finished up there one week later, on May 7th. In between, participants drove from one venue to another, competing at each for points.
Well rounded performance was a key for all, as competitions included wet and dry skid pad results, time trials at several different road courses, bracket and drag racing. Many of the runs between different stops were in the range of fourteen to eighteen hours, emphasizing endurance and reliability as well as competitive performance.
