The relationship between Ford and the New York Yankees has historically been a strong one. In 2009, Ford became the official Truck and Sports Utility Vehicle of the team. In 2010, the Tri-State Ford dealers created a one-off Yankees-themed Mustang GT convertible and built a promotional giveaway contest around it.
The same Dealers appear to have continued building the relationship with a new television commercial built around New York City, a 2012 Mustang GT and Yankee’s superstar shortstop, Derek Jeter. The .313 hitter made national news recently, joining only 27 other players to have 3,000 career hits.
There’s no mistaking the influence of star power and this Mustang is trunning around New York City with a JETER vanity plate. It may be a different twist on the old Win on Sunday, sell on Monday approach, but if it works, bring it! GM isn’t above handing out Camaro convertibles to SuperBowl MVPs and other sports notables. That’s because it works.
Jeter also stars in a Ford Explorer, 30 second spot with a far stronger baseball tie-in. Check them both out at the bottom of this article.
