All too often, car companies don’t build cool concept cars or visions, saying there is either a lack of interest or it isn’t financially viable to produce. Ford is as guilty as just about every other automaker, though Ford of Australia is denying expectations already with its recent announcement.
Autoblog reports that the plainly-named FPV Concept shown off last fall will make its debut as the GT “Black” Edition, still boasting its supercharged BOSS V8.
The original FPV Concept was the first-ever concept from the Australian version of Ford’s SVT program here in the U.S. And despite most concept cars never making it into production, Ford’s Aussie arm will be producing a limited number of the GT Black Ford Falcons. It should offer at least 450 horsepower at the wheels, and only 125 are slated for production.
FPV was “overwhelmed” by the response to the FPV Concept, which featured a unique front fascia and hood, big 19-inch one-piece alloy wheels, and a big brake system. Many of those features have made it into the production version, including the supercharged 5.0 engine. The price tag is about what you’d expect; $74,290 (just under $76,000 U.S.) but you get all this supercharged goodness in an awesome four-door sedan. Too bad Ford still hasn’t seen fit to bring the Falcon back home, it sounds like a mighty fun four-door.
