In the context of small block nitrous-aided doorslammers, there are few, if any, in the country quite as impressive as Kentucky native Sam Vincent’s ’89 Mustang LX. And for those who have followed Vincent’s exploits in the NMRA’s exciting Super Street Outlaw category over the year, that’s a fact that they’re well aware of.

Just to prove once and for all who has the baddest small block nitrous car of them all however, the Nitrous Small Block Nationals was organized and held last weekend at the Mooresville Dragway in North Carolina, right in the heart of NASCAR country. The much-anticpted race brought out 17 cars, with Eric McMillon leading the charge as the #1 qualifier in his ’03 Mustang at 4.93 seconds, while Vincent was within striking distance in third at 5.03, albeit following a couple of low 4.80’s during testing earlier in the day.

Vincent kicked off eliminations with a 4.83 defeat of Shawn Murphy and ran an even quicker in the semifinals alongside Just Smith, setting a final round matchup with McMillon. But with marbles on the line, McMillon’s nice 4.95 lap was no match for Sammy’s 4.86, giving him the crown as the baddest small block nitrous car in the nation. And he did it on slicks, at over 2,900 pounds, and with a reported seven cylinders in the finale.
