We have learned some vital information today: Mustangs can’t fly. While this seems like common sense, we found out from BangShift that one young lad in Switzerland made a valiant effort to make his brand new 5.0 take off from a parking garage regardless. Unfortunately, he failed miserably when instead of flying, his car plummeted three stories to the street below. What can we say? We at least give the guy credit for trying.
The details on the crash are still a bit hazy at this point but apparently the launch of the Mustang was unintentional. The driver, a 24-year-old guy who remains unnamed, managed to crash through a concrete barrier on the third floor before sending his car and pieces of concrete three stories down to the pavement below. The driver reportedly only suffered minor bumps and bruises, most likely because the car’s fall was broken by a tree and a row of mopeds. Unfortunately, the mopeds didn’t survive.
Based on the pictures of the accident, it looks like the Mustang was going at a decent rate of speed when it was launched out of the garage. The car didn’t merely drop straight down, but instead flew a decent clip before coming to rest on some bushes. So, we retract our previous statement. Mustangs can fly. They just do so in a downward motion.
While police continue to investigate this incident, 20 Minutes Online is reporting that the driver mistakenly stomped on the gas rather than the brake, causing him to launch across the parking garage’s third floor before catapulting off the side. While we see this mistake made quite often, we can’t quite figure out how at 24 years old someone would confuse the pedals.
We’re just glad the driver is ok and that no one on the street below was hurt. As for the Mustang, well you can see from the pictures, it didn’t fair as well. Trunkless, twisted and folded up in the front, we have a feeling the 5.0 will be making an early trip to the scrap yard.
