As many of you no doubt already know, this past weekend was the Woodward Dream Cruise, an annual gathering on Detroit’s famed Woodward Avenue. The Woodward Dream Cruise has become a must-visit event for all the automotive faithful, and with its growing popularity comes a growing number of sponsors, and growing concern for the safety of participants.
So it is that Ford’s “Burnout Box” was literally just that, an all-encapsulating box to prevent both car and tire debris from injuring the crowd. But after watching this video, we couldn’t help but reflect on the ridiculous lengths corporations must go to to protect themselves from frivolous lawsuits.
First off, we must commend Ford for even bothering to put together a burnout box for this year’s event. Far too many local, and even regional car shows have out and out banned any form of burnouts resulting from sue-happy lawyers who ruin the fun for everyone. Hence why Ford felt the need to completely enclose a 2013 Mustang in jersey barriers, as well as put up netting behind the car to catch any errant bits of burnt rubber.
Despite all of these precautions though, Ford’s drivers felt obliged to put on a damn good show. The new Ford Mustang is a burnout machine, and it doesn’t take long to turn those tires into tire smoke. So kudos to Ford for giving the crowd what they want, and here is to hoping the success of the burnout box leads to a return of tire shredding nationwide.
