You have to love the opening question. Are you looking for a hot rod? We’re not quite sure this is a hot rod, per se. It may have been more of a hot rod if it was kept a Mustang. And this is not what Ford meant when they said that the Mustang is going global.
Stealing the look of a ’96 Mercedes isn’t exactly normal for the Mustang enthusiast, nor the Mercedes fan but somebody apparently envisioned the baby of a Mercedes SL-500 and a Mustang Fox Body. Then this was born.
According to this Craigslist ad found by Real Performance Mustangs, this isn’t the only one that exists either. Apparently there’s someone who makes and sells kits for a Mercedes SL-500 clones built off of an ’86 Mustang Fox Body chassis. This black “Mer-Stang” is being sold on Craigslist for $5k firm, but you could find a great looking Fox for that price without it being half Mercedes.
“Now you can have Mercedes Benz looks on a Ford budget, says his site.”
Looking up the Kelley Blue Book of an actual Mercedes SL-500 ranges anywhere from $5k – $16k dealer price, with $16k being somewhat steep. The sliver Mercedes/Mustang clone on his homepage was sold for a crazy $16,000 with a rebuilt 5.0L. V-8 engine connected to a 4-speed automatic. The rebuilt engine had 7,000 miles and the car had power top, windows, and steering.
This is definitely something different, and if that’s what you are going for than alright. However, those who are into these cars might be a bit skeptical on mixing the two. It still looks like a Mercedes and those might not be able to tell with a quick glance or passing by. Look closely and it sort of screams Fox.
