We’re a little late to the game with this impressive fact, but as they say, better late than never.
Michael DeMayo, a regular on the NMRA Hot Street trail with his naturally aspirated 1995 Ford Mustang, once again made the long, long haul out to Las Vegas from his Butler, Pa. home to compete in the N/A Hot Street category at the 8th annual Street Car Super Nationals, where he was already a three-time winner of the exciting high-winding, gear-banging class.
DeMayo qualified No. 2 in the stellar field with a great 8.212 and rocked to the fastest speed in qualifying at 169.12 mph (and a stout 39 MPH backhalf) that got everyone in the class’ attention.
DeMayo’s Team Powerhead Mustang became a virtual bracket car on raceday thanks to its Neal Chance Racing converter, first scoring an 8.207-second, 162.94 mph victory over Anthony Valentino in the opening round, followed by an even quicker 8.193 in round two to dispatch Al Aguire. DeMayo remained consistent in the semifinals, running an 8.200 to down Rod DeWild and keep his streak of running low elapsed time of each round intact. Those numbers, combined with steady performances on the tree, was more than enough for DeMayo to pick apart the ladder. In the final round, DeMayo bettered opponent Victor Brum on both ends of race track, taking a scant 8.211 to 8.226 victory. The win marked DeMayo’s fourth at the Vegas spectacular.
