The Eaton M90 supercharger is a favorite of many enthusiasts and tuners. It’s probably most widely know to those using a ROUSH supercharger kit on 2005-10 Mustangs, as the M90 is the soul of that kit.
Bolt on horsepower for many of us though is extremely seductive. We find ourselves lured in over and over, by faster times at the track, and the rush of matting the accelerator for the first time with no parts on board. The problem with the M90 is that when you do want more the system maxes out around 400 hp to the rear wheels. It is widely known that the 4.6L three valve engine can take well over this amount of power, and as such many who have craved more power have been forced to upgrade their entire supercharger system again.
Recently VMP Tuning has begun researching interest in an upgrade for M90 kit owners. This upgrade would simply replace the supercharger itself. Going in place of the M90 would be the TVS 1.9L supercharger.
The TVS 1.9L offers higher efficiency, and even pulleyed stock out of the box offers an increase of 30-50 hp at the rear wheels over the M90 it would replace. According to VMP the sweet spot would be when this supercharger is pulleyed for 10 psi. This should have cars making in the 475-500 rwhp range.
The setup is a simple supercharger swap, as well as a changing the alternator bracket, which VMP will supply in the kit. The TVS bolts directly to the M90 intake manifold and even reuses the stock belt from the M90 system.
VMP is currently gauging customer interest in this upgrade with a projected retail price of $3000. That’s a significant savings over buying a much larger supercharger which would also be a much more involved swap. You can contact VMP via email or phone to let them know if you’re interested in them developing this upgrade for your car.
