Video: 86-98 Mustang Fuel Pump Replacement With BBK Performance

Chances are if you own a Mustang long enough, you’re going to eventually need to replace the fuel pump. Wether that replacement is because of a failure, or hopefully due to the increased demand for more fuel because of performance upgrades, replacing a fuel pump is almost a right of passage for many Mustang owners.

Dropping the tank and swapping the fuel pump is pretty much a right of passage for any Fox-body or SN95 owner.

BBK Performance  carries a large line of fuel pumps for the popular Fox-body and SN95 Mustang platforms. These pumps offer upgrades over the factory units in terms of output and are available in 110, 155, 190, 255, and 300 liter-per-hour configurations. This wide range of pump options offers upgrades for anywhere from lightly modified cars, all the way up to cars with forced induction or nitrous power.

With the age of the Fox-body platform, and even the SN95 nearing 20 years since it’s debut, there is probably a generation of Mustang enthusiasts out there that have never had to drop the tank  to install a new pump, especially since the S197 platform offers easier access under the car’s back seat.

BBK has released a video that details step-by-step how to drop the tank and replace the pump. The best part about this video is that the steps are the same for all 86-98 Mustangs.

The video is full of tips and advice for making this job not only easier, but also what to watch out for, and step by step instruction for first-timers.

The video is full of useful tips and tricks, and even outlines some of the more specialized tools needed, such as fuel line disconnect tools. We recently did this same upgrade on own Project Rehab. We can tell you that depending on the age and condition of the car that replacing the pump is anywhere from a two-hour to an all-day job. Regardless this video from BBK is a helpful guide, and we’d recommend it to anyone who is doing their first Mustang fuel pump swap, or hasn’t done one in a while.
