Many events have already taken place to celebrate the iconic Mustang’s 50th anniversary this year. For instance, no one will forget the 50th birthday celebration held in Charlotte and Las Vegas back in April. However, the small community of Lake George, New York is trying to make history this weekend by setting the all-time Guinness record for the largest Mustang parade.
According to the report on PostStar.com, the current record stands at 766 cars. That event took place in Woodburn, Oregon on April 12th of this year and was organized by the Mount Hood Mustangs and Fords Club. So far, the Lake George event already has over 200+ vehicles registered. Which is pretty impressive when you consider the town’s population isn’t even over 1,000 people. The event organizer, Lisa Giknis, owns a small pet business in Lake George and has owned five Mustangs throughout her life.
The parade takes place this weekend at 1 p.m. on Sunday, when Mustangs will line up single-file to cruise ending in the Magic Forest family fun park at 1912 State Route 9, where owner Jack Gillette has agreed to allow them to park.
For Giknis, who was also born in April of ’64 the event is more than just a way to possibly break a record, its more about the Lake George community, “I turn 50 this year, and the Mustang turned 50 this year, and I wanted to do something to help with the village of Lake George and have an event to promote businesses,” she said.
Sure they have a long way to go , but getting over 200 mustangs registered is a great start. So if you are in the area come out and join in a potential world record! Drivers who want to register can email Giknis at thedogcabinlg@yahoo.com.
“Even if you do not have a Mustang or want to partake in the parade come watch! Grab a lawn chair and line up on Canada Street and watch us make history,” Giknis said.
