SCT Tunes The EcoBoost Mustang And Gets Impressive Power Gains

This week has seen a flood of 2015 Mustang news as the cars continue to make their way into the hands of owners, and the aftermarket. All have been waiting to see just what the all new S550 will do, and it seems that wait is over.

Yesterday we brought you some of the early numbers from testing a Mustang GT and a Mustang EcoBoost. The GT was tested by SCT at the drag strip and on the dyno. Today, SCT has released their first numbers for a tuned EcoBoost Mustang. The work was done by SCT’s Chris Johnson on MRT’s 2015 EcoBoost.

The results for the EcoBoost, with no other modifications performed, is quite impressive. SCT baselined the car at their in-house facility and came up with 231 hp and 288 ft-lbs in stock trim for the little four-cylinder.

With a tune loaded into the computer they boosted power at the rear tires to 266 rwhp and 334 ft-lbs. That’s a gain of 35 rwhp and 46 ft-lbs at the wheels, with nothing more than a flash tune performed. SCT was confident that the car would pick up significant power based on their previous EcoBoost tuning experience, especially given their recent success with the high output Focus ST. Take a look at the graphs above as well. Notice how much broader the power bands are with the SCT tune loaded. They’re not just delivering a big peak number here, this is a major step in the right direction with power that driver’s will make use of, essentially more power, all of the time, not just a small variance at peak. With the tune, torque and horsepower come in sooner, and stay near peak far longer than stock.

We’re confident that once a few shops get their hands on the EcoBoost, add some mods, and have a chance to break in the cars properly, we’re going to see Ford’s latest turbocharged four-cylinder become a viable alternative to the GT.

SCT says that they’re confident there’s more to be had in this combination, remember it’s still early in the game for EcoBoost Mustangs. With the SEMA and PRI shows just around the corner, we can’t wait to drool over the latest parts for the S550, both EcoBoost and GT. Until then, we’ll keep bringing you updates as fast as we get them.
